The last thing you want is to unpack these items only to find them ruined. Our professional packers offer these tips to help ensure you pack everything in such a way as to ensure a safe journey.
The experts at Baymeadows Moving and Storage say it all starts with the right packing materials. The list of necessities includes:
Mirrors, Pictures, and Paintings with Glass Covering Them
Tape an X on the glass that goes from corner to corner
Place a sheet of foam or cardboard over the glass and tape in place
Wrap in a layer of packing paper, tape it in place
Wrap in a layer of bubble wrap, tape it in place
Place the mirror in a padded box (use paper or bubble wrap) and fill any voids with more packing materials
Tape the box shut and mark what’s in it using a permanent marker.
Lay several sheets of paper on the floor and place painting flat on them
Cover the painting with more paper and a layer of bubble wrap
Roll everything together small enough that it will fit in a cardboard tube and tape together
Place in the tube, put the end caps on and tape them in place
Mark the tubes showing what’s in them
Paintings in Frames without Glass
Cover the face of the painting with Glassine (a special acid-free paper used by artists)
Place cardboard or foam over the front and back of the painting and tape in place
Follow instructions for packing mirrors etc.
