Behind the Scenes: Baymeadows Movers Teams Up with Chipman and OMA to Clear Out Legacy Equipment from AMC Theatres

July 20, 2026

Most customers walk into a movie theater with their mind on the movie they're there to watch. They see the giant screen, cozy seats, and maybe the smell of freshly popped popcorn. What they don't see is everything happening behind the scenes to make that experience possible—or what it takes when it's time to retire decades of gear and open the door for the future.

Recently, Baymeadows Movers had the chance to partner with Chipman Relocation & Logistics on a one-of-a-kind commercial moving project through our membership in the Office Moving Alliance (OMA). As a team, we supported the removal of outdated projection equipment from several AMC Theatre locations. It wasn't your typical commercial move. It called for careful planning, specialized equipment, experienced crews, and seamless coordination between reliable relocation partners.

Jobs like these are part of why we love what we do. No two commercial moves are ever exactly alike, and that's what keeps our work engaging.

Every Commercial Move Has a Story

Every Commercial Move Has a StoryAmong the finest elements of commercial moving is the diversity.

In one week we're moving an entire school before students come back for the new year. The next we're transporting physical therapy equipment to a new healthcare facility. Then we are inside a movie theater, meticulously dismantling and removing equipment that has entertained millions of people over the years.

This AMC project was notably memorable because it involved removing large digital cinema projection systems, together with several pieces of historic 35mm projection equipment. Walking into the projection booths felt like going back in time. Some of the film projectors and reels had been part of the movie-going experience long before digital projection became the industry norm.

For cinema lovers, it was captivating.

For our crew, it was a reflection that every piece of equipment we move has its own history.

Great Projects Start with Careful Planning

Great Projects Start with Careful PlanningProjects like this don't begin when the moving truck arrives.

Long before the first projector is taken down, our team maps out logistics, scheduling, building access, equipment requirements, manpower, and safety planning.

Partnering with Chipman Relocation & Logistics, we managed every phase of the project to ensure each theater could be completed efficiently and safely. One of the top advantages of being part of the Office Moving Alliance (OMA) is having access to a nationwide network of seasoned commercial movers who share the same commitment to professionalism and customer service. By pairing Chipman's national relocation expertise with Baymeadows Movers' local knowledge and project management experience, we were able to complete the work smoothly from start to finish.

Cinemas weren't constructed with equipment removal in mind.

Projection booths are often tucked away on upper levels with narrow hallways, tight doorways, and restricted access. Some buildings have elevators, while others do not. Transporting large projection systems through those spaces demands much more than simply putting them on a dolly and heading for the truck.

Every challenge must be anticipated before work even begins.

That's where experience makes all the difference.

It's Truly About More Than Muscle

It's Truly About More Than MuscleMany people assume moving heavy equipment is purely about brute strength.

The reality is that commercial moving hinges on planning, technique, and using the right tools for the job.

Jobs like the AMC equipment removal require specialized dollies, rigging equipment, lift systems, protective materials, and skilled crews who know how to safely navigate oversized equipment through tight spaces.

Each projector had to be meticulously disconnected, protected, moved through the building, and safely loaded for transport.

A lot of these systems are not only heavy—they're also highly delicate. One accidental bump into a doorway or uneven transition can lead to significant damage.

Communication and patience are no less important than strength.

Preserving the Building Is Just as Important

While our focus is on safely moving equipment, we're equally focused on preserving the customer's facility.

Commercial structures represent a major investment, and even minor repairs can become expensive and disruptive.

Once a job is done, our goal is for customers to remember how smoothly everything went, not the moving process itself.

Teamwork Makes the Difference

Big commercial moving projects are not a solo undertaking.

Each member of the crew has a clear role, and communication is essential from start to finish.

One team member may be guiding equipment through a doorway while another controls the load. Someone else is monitoring clearances, while another crew member is readying the next piece for transport.

When veteran crews work as a team, there's a rhythm that takes shape. That's a skill that can't be developed overnight.

Observing our crew work together was a powerful example of what happens when seasoned movers share the same dedication to safety, communication, and customer service.

A Little Fun Along the Way

Baymeadows Moving and Storage team having a little funEven during high-pressure commercial projects, it's worthwhile to enjoy the experience.

Being employed inside movie theaters definitely had its perks.

Our team couldn't help sneaking downstairs for a few movie snacks during breaks in tasks on the project. Having spent the day behind the scenes where few people ever get to go, popcorn for some reason tasted even better.

These moments help make long workdays memorable and remind us that while we take our work seriously, we also love what we do.

Commercial Moving Goes Beyond Transportation

Commercial Moving Goes Beyond TransportationMany people think moving companies simply load trucks and unload them at another location.

Commercial moving is so much more than that.

These engagements often involve logistics planning, inventory management, warehousing, project management, scheduling, handling of specialized equipment, and coordinating several contractors.

Every customer has different needs.

Certain businesses must relocate hundreds of employees across a single weekend.

Others need sensitive medical equipment transported without disruption.

Certain projects occur overnight to reduce downtime.

Others—like the AMC project—entail carefully removing specialized equipment from unique environments.

Every relocation requires adaptability, planning, and problem solving.

Here at Baymeadows Movers, when somebody asks, "Can you help with this?" our first thought is almost always, "Let's figure out how."

Hands-On Experience Builds Confidence

For decades, Baymeadows Movers has been proudly serving Jacksonville and Northeast Florida, and we've found that great projects consistently come down to the same fundamentals:

Preparation.

Communication.

Professionalism.

Trust.

Our customers know we'll come ready, keep them informed throughout the project, handle their property with care, and fix problems instead of causing them.

Whether we're working inside schools, hospitals, office buildings, warehouses, government facilities, entertainment venues, or commercial campuses, our approach remains the same.

Protect the customer.

Protect the equipment.

Complete the work safely.

Leave the site better than we found it.

Safeguarding a Piece of Movie History

Safeguarding a Piece of Movie HistoryOne of the unexpected highlights of this project was discovering some of the original 35mm projection systems that once gave life to countless films.

Well before streaming services and digital cinema, these machines delivered memorable experiences for generations of moviegoers.

Working alongside them gave our crew a genuine appreciation for how much technology has progressed over the years.

It's not every day that a moving company has the opportunity to help retire a small piece of entertainment history.

Personally, it truly was a moment we'll never forget.
