As you start frantically wrapping your goods and stuffing your packing boxes, Jacksonville movers would like to remind you that there are some things you should not include in your goods to be shipped. One way to keep track of what can be packed and what you should not pack is to create checklists. This will make it much easier for everyone in the family to keep track of what’s going on and where things are at. Jacksonville Movers - Baymeadows Moving

Talk First

The best way to find out what you can and cannot ship is to contact your Jacksonville movers. They can provide you with a list of items they are not allowed to transport. The list includes things like spray paint, kerosene, gasoline, paint thinners, and many other flammable items. You should have a hazardous waste disposal site. Look online for one and then arrange to drop off your waste.

Plants are another thing to talk to your moving company about. Some states do not allow the transportation of vegetation across their state lines. If you are moving far away, you may not want your plants to spend days in the dark without water. They might not survive the journey. If your move is local, you can take your plants in your car or have a friend care for them until you get settled in before they bring them to you.

Never try to ship perishable foods, they will not survive the journey. Give to your neighbors, friends, or local food banks. Plan on eating out for the last couple of days in your old house and for the trip to your new home. Be sure you pack a cooler with snacks and drinks for the trip.

Create Moving Bags for Everyone

Put together a list of everything each member of your family will need for the last couple of days, the journey to your new home, and the first couple of days. For the kids put together backpacks with games, puzzles, coloring books, crayons, and other things to keep them entertained on the journey. Make sure everyone has toiletries, a toothbrush, medications, and so forth.

Lock your important papers in a lockbox and place the box in the trunk of your car. If you have a safety deposit box and are moving far away, don’t forget to empty it. Don’t forget to pack a bag for your pet, including food and water bowls, treats, toys, and of course a small bag of food. If your pet isn’t microchipped, consider having it done.
