Hurricanes are always unpredictable. Hurricane Irma is now classified as a Category 5 storm and could potentially reach the Florida coast. If you are in (or could be in) the path of the storm, the best thing you can do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best. At Baymeadows Moving and Storage, we’d like to share a few tips to help you hunker down for the storm.
Be prepared to evacuate. If you are ordered to evacuate, know where to go and make a plan for where you will stay.
If you are not ordered to evacuate and you stay in your home, be prepared to lose electricity and water. Be sure to stock up on food and water as you could be up against flooding and roadblocks.
Put together a go-bag containing items such as flashlights, batteries, cash, first aid supplies and any medications you may need.
Reinforce your roof, windows and doors as best you can to minimize storm damage. Also be sure to trim any loose branches and clear debris from gutters to prevent water damage.
Have a plan for communicating with family and friends before, during and after the storm.
